P2P offers a program called Build a Beater (BAB). For $50 you can purchase a used bike frame, parts, and one month’s worth of shop time to completely build a beater: a good-enough bike to get you around town. It’s a great program, and it’s been popular with do-it-yourselfers and people who’re interested in building a bike that is uniquely theirs.

If you’re looking to build a older mountain bike or step-thru ladies bike for your commute, then we can still provide the BAB program to you. However, if you’re hoping to build a fixie, you’ll have to check back later because we’re out of road bike frames. Until we get more donations, that part of the BAB isn’t available.

We still sell complete bikes, tons of used parts, and of course we have open shop hours available all spring and summer. Check our calendar for days and times.

After all the Bike To Work week fun, don’t forget to check out the 10 Million Dollar Sale this weekend. Be at 227 N Ella on Saturday the 16th at 9 am to get the best deals on electronics and outdoor gear, because not only is Mtn Gear bringing some of their best stuff, but Huppin’s will be there as well.

It’s usually referred to as Bike to Work week, but Spokane is branching out this year and making May 10-16th, Bike To Whatever week: bike to eat, bike to play, bike to school, bike to shop. You get the idea : ,,) This opens BTW to college students, school kids, stay-at-home or work-from-home folk, retirees, and everyone else. Why limit the possibilities to biking to work only?

And if you commute from the south hill, come by our energizer booth on Wednesday for some homemade goodies, coffee from Apple Charlotte Cooking Co, and spoke cards designed by local artist, Patrick Sullivan–Corner of 20th and Sherman at Plum Tree School.

Mountain Gear carries primo adventure gear, and this huge sale only happens once a year. Besides the great products, Mtn Gear is a local business that believes in and works towards sustainability and building community. If you try to support local businesses that do good things in your community and you’re looking for some bargain gear, then don’t miss the sale.

This is an unusual post for us, but Mountain Gear is an unusual company. They’ve been a huge supporter of P2P since we first started out. Mountain Gear steps up to support way more outdoor and environmental-related projects than any other local company that I know of. They are quick to lend a hand of support by donating money, staff, resources and space. Mountain Gear makes Spokane a better place to live and play for all of us. We’re happy to help Mountain Gear get the word out on this sale.

P2P was welcomed back to West Central Neighbor Days where we tuned up over 40 bikes for kids and adults on Saturday. The West Central Community Center puts together this event every spring to educate and bring together neighbors who might be interested in mentoring programs, youth sports, community gardens and other resources. We love being a part of this annual event. Check out the great video by Hank, showing some of the action, and pictures by Lisa.

Saturday night we also got to be a part of the Earth Day pre-party at Empyrean, where they’re doing great things to foster a vibrant music and art scene in downtown Spokane. Eco-movies were showcased, and Ester Holms read from her book of poetry. Johanna Kunin, Olive Green, and Alexandra McKay brought some home-spun sounds to the venue. Sorry if you missed the party; it was a lot of fun.

Spokane officially celebrated Earth Day on Sunday afternoon. P2P board member, Jace Bylenga was the main organizer for this celebration. As well as bringing together a ton of local non-profits who are working to educate folks and work towards a more sustainable model of living and doing business, the event really tried to reach the children. Hula hoops, face painting,paper-making from recycled materials,drought-tolerant flower seeds, yoga postures and so much more were brought to the park to especially engage the littlest members of the crowd. The efforts were well received. I hope this event gets bigger every year!

Thanks to the folks at the Steam Plant for hosting an awesome Paris-Roubaix fundraising party. They really made the whole event happen. The food was yummy (have you tried the fish tacos?!), the service was fast, and the room was cozy and totally comfortable. These guys even opened up early on Easter Sunday for us! And of course thank you to everyone who came to support Pedals2People and our educational programs.

Thanks to everyone who came by the P2P shop for our annual garage sale and fundraiser. We sold a dozen bikes and so may miscellaneous parts. We had an amazing turn out, and the weather even cooperated.

All of your support goes directly into our programs. Our biggest expense is liability insurance, which is not cheap since insurance companies consider biking an inherently dangerous sport ;,,) We also are positioned to pay for a newly reorganized tool cabinet and a new P2P banner. Tools will be purchased, and we’ll continue to make improvements to the shop. We hope these additions will attract new volunteers, keep our faithful helpers happy, and motivate people in our community to learn about and ride their bikes more! Thanks again!

It must be spring because it’s time for the Annual P2P Garage Sale. Come to the P2P garage for crazy deals on bikes, parts, and even a dorm fridge. The address is 4218 S Garfield, and the sale will be in the garage and alley located at the rear of the house. Please park on the street and not in the alley. Last year’s sale was a huge success, and we’re hoping to have another great sale this year. All proceeds fund Pedals2People’s programs.

Our spring and summer months always fill because it’s bike season in Spokane. After meeting yesterday, we updated our events calendar, committed to 4 free bike tune ups (two of then in areas of town we haven’t been to yet), have 2 fundraisers and 3 other community events scheduled. During March, we’re going to open the shop on Monday nights too, from 8-10pm, perfect for anyone who works late or has trouble sneaking away until after the kiddos are asleep.
