What a beautimous mission, what a groovtastic group! I saw that no one had yet commented on the fine contribution P2P made to the community building events that coincide during our little "South Perry Street Summer Fair." I have to say THANK YOU! I brought my bike and a neighbor's bye the P2P set-up at The Shop on Saturday. What a joy it was to see so many sweaty smiling volunteers happily giving. Likewise, it was a joy to see that so many in the area took advantage of the opportunity. What a gift!

You guys rock. I'll be dropping in some time to shop, donate, buy...what ever. Also will be talking about you guys for a long time to come.

David: we will be in contact with you. It may be a while, as I think we're going the "scale down" approach for bike hauling and getting a small trailer. But a few times in the last year we've had events pop up where we need the kind of room/help that you are offerring. Thanks a bunch.

I can probably help out with your 'Do bigger runs' option. Would a full size truck and a 26 ft enclosed trailer help with transferring bikes? We have longer trailers, but access on the South Hill can be tight. Just let me know time and place, if my schedule permits, hopefully I could be there to help. It seems like David P. would have tried this already if it was cost-effective. If we own our own container, we'd either have to pay return shipping to get the thing back or try to find someone in Ghana to buy it from us.

There are businesses in Spokane that sell containers, so we could potentially try to get a deal. But $1600 would also buy a lot of beer and pizza for volunteers to load the truck. Twenty people and a good plan will get the thing loaded in an afternoon, so I don't think we should fret too much about that.

I was curious about the price of shipping containers so I started googling. It looks like a 40 footer can be had for somewhere in the neighborhood of $1600 on eBay. No idea what the transportation costs, etc. would be, but it seems like shipping containers are surprisingly affordable in general, especially if we could find a local source and kept transportation costs to a minimum.

This evening I rode home via Ohio (currently closed to car traffic as part of the Kendall Yards project) and the Spokane River and Peaceful Valley were looking pretty scenic with all the Fall foliage. I stopped to take a couple pictures back towards downtown, but discovered my phone was dead. Doh! I'm going to have to ride that way again next week with a working camera.

John, I'm really liking what you and the other p2pers are getting started and plan to continue showing up at the garage to help flatten bikes after my Build-A-Beater is finished. I've also put up a couple p2p garage related posts on my new biking blog (100km.us) for anyone interested in what the Build-A-Beater experience has been like from my perspective.
